New Hampshire Oncology-Hematology Hires New Executive Director
Hooksett, NH – Ronald Barkley, MS, JD, has joined New Hampshire Oncology-Hematology , PA , as its Executive Director. Barkley comes to the practice with a broad health-care corporate development and operations background.
Barkley is accomplished in hospital, medical group practice, ambulatory care and managed care network settings and during his career, has developed and successfully implemented more than 40 health-care business joint ventures and strategic affiliations in numerous markets nationally.
“We are excited to have Ron on board with us,” said Denis Hammond, MD, a partner in the practice. “He brings to our organization a wealth of experience and knowledge that is so vital in health care today. Our health-care delivery systems have become so complex, so involved, that Ron's deep familiarity in this area will assist us immensely.”
“I am passionate about rationalizing cancer care delivery and financing on a patient-by-patient, family-by-family basis,” Barkley explained. “What I mean by that is that in our environment of soaring costs of care delivery coupled with rapidly declining funds to pay for care, whether it's Medicare, Medicaid or employer ability to continue paying for the employee/retiree health insurance benefit, many of our patients become exposed to very large out-of-pocket costs to gain access to the very care that they thought their health benefit was meant to protect them from. This is particularly prevalent in chemotherapy treatment, where a patient, depending on their insurance benefit, can be exposed to anywhere from a $2,000 to $3,000 personal debt obligation to upwards of five or ten times that amount for some of the newer medical-breakthrough, “designer” drugs.
“This is not unique to our practice or to cancer care services in general, but is endemic on a national scale. It's a public policy embarrassment, I think. It just isn't fair to our patients, and we are ever vigilant in matching patient ability to pay with their inevitable health insurance benefit shortfall,” Barkley continued.
Barkley earned his Bachelor of Science degree in life sciences from Michigan State University , his Master of Science degree in healthcare administration from California State University and his law degree from Southwestern University/California College of Law . He is a member of the State Bar of California, the Medical Group Management Association, the American Health Lawyers Association, and the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys.
