Lung Cancer

Red color connotes government-sponsored trials.
Green color connotes pharmaceutical-sponsored trials.

BCetux - Patients with advanced non small cell lung cancer who have progressed after receiving chemotherapy are eligible for this trial.

Patients are randomly allocated to receive one of two chemotherapy drugs:

1-Alimta
2-Taxotere

Both group 1 and 2 are further randomly assigned to receive Cetuximab (erbitux), a protein that binds the epidermal growth factor receptor, or no other therapy.

C79803 – Patients with early stage lung cancer recently treated with surgery are randomly allocated to:

High dose selenium
or
placebo

CALGB 30402 – Patients with advanced non small cell lung cancer who are quite symptomatic from the cancer are eligible for this trial.  Patients are treated with either:

Weekly Taxotere + Erbitux
or
Weekly Taxotere + Velcade

Erbitux is an antibody that interferes with a protein that promotes tumor growth. Velcade is a drug that alters the balance of many proteins in the cancer cell.

CALGB 30407– Patients with stage 3 non small cell lung cancer (patients with lymph node involvement in the chest) are eligible for this trial. Patients are randomly assigned to either:

1-Radiation therapy with concurrent (administered during the course of radiation) Alimta and Carboplatin chemotherapy  followed by 4 cycles of Alimta after completing radiation.

or

2-The same treatment as above plus the drug Erbitux which is administered weekly during radiation therapy.  Erbitux is an antibody that interferes with a protein that promotes tumor growth.
